  6. OVERVIEW
  7. --------
  8.  
  9.     Using the [B]rowse feature of MODEM BASE PRO provides complete remote
  10. on-line database management.  Each command is explained below in detail.
  11. You can use [ENTER] to toggle between BROWSE and RECORD VIEW/EDIT modes.
  12. MODEM BASE provides advanced searching features with it's SEARCH TABLE
  13. method.  You can "telescope" SEARCHES up to 10 LEVELS deep to find the
  14. specific information you are looking for.  Then depending on your security
  15. access you may download the information in your SEARCH TABLE in either
  16. dBase compatible format OR a REPORT format as customized by the System
  17. Operator.  Helpful indicators exist to assist you in knowing how to
  18. navigate through the database.   A green highlight bar displays the CURRENT
  19. RECORD# within the database if you are using ANSI graphics or the TOP
  20. RECORD if you have ANSI disabled.  Below is a detail explanation of each
  21. command available.

  23. COMMAND SUMMARY

  26. Note:  Not all commands may be available depending on security access as
  27.        setup by the System Operator (SYSOP).
  28.  
  29. Edit[#]
  30. -------
  31. Allows you to select the RECORD# to VIEW if in BROWSE MODE or allow you to
  32. choose the FIELD# to EDIT if in VIEW/EDIT MODE.  Complete on-line remote
  33. field editing commands are supported if your communication package supports
  34. extended keyboard codes or DOORWAY MODE, i.e.; Qmodem Pro by Mustang
  35. Software at 805-395-0223.  Using extended keyboard codes while field
  36. editing allows you to use your left and right arrow keys to move throughout
  37. the field data, HOME will bring the cursor to the beginning of the input
  38. field, END will bring the cursor to the end of any data in the input field,
  39. ALT-D will DELETE the entire field, DELETE will delete the current
  40. character where the cursor is placed and move any characters to the right
  41. over to the left to fill in the deleted character, and of course [ENTER]
  42. accepts the data in the field as your input.  Additionally, you may use the
  43. INSERT key to toggle insert mode if you wish to insert data into a field.

  45. While in a FULL SCREEN MEMO if you have edit access you may use remote cursor
  46. movement, however to do so, your communication program must support sending
  47. PC KEYBOARD codes for the CURSOR MOVEMENT KEYS or you can use a SET of CONTROL
  48. KEYs and perform cursor movement.  Below is a list of cursor movement functions
  49. and associated remote key support.  DOORWAY MODE is a popular mode now
  50. available on many commercial communication programs that will send PC KEYBOARD
  51. codes.  If your communication program does not support a DOORWAY or similar
  52. mode, then you will need to use CTRL codes.

  72. Note : If the caller does not have EDIT access to the MEMO the cursor movement
  73.        functions will be operational, but NO CHANGES will be allowed to be
  74.        made to the memo.

  78. Will prompt for which FIELD# you want to go to and then move to that
  79. field# and make it the current field# for both BROWSE and VIEW/EDIT modes.
  80. The current field# (along with the current record#) is maintained globally
  81. even when working on several databases simultaneously in a [S]earch Table.

  85. If in BROWSE MODE will allow you to scroll from right to left to the NEXT
  86. field number available.  A red "+" indicator will appear to the right of
  87. the field names if more fields than can fit on the screen are available.
  88. If you are in VIEW/EDIT MODE then this also allows you to scroll to the
  89. next available field(s), but does it by displaying in PAGES of fields
  90. available within the current record.  A "+MORE" indicator will appear if
  91. more fields than can fit on the screen are available.

  95. If in BROWSE MODE will allow you to scroll from left to right to the
  96. PREVIOUS field number available.  A red "-" indicator will appear to the
  97. left of the field names if more fields than can fit on the screen are
  98. available.  If you are at the FIRST FIELD, then an indicator does not
  99. exist, but if you use this command you will wrap around to the LAST field
  100. in the RECORD.  If you are in VIEW/EDIT MODE then this also allows you to
  101. scroll to previous available field(s), but does it by displaying in PAGES
  102. of fields available within the current record.  A "-MORE" indicator will
  103. appear if more previous pages of fields than can fit on the screen are
  104. available.

  106. [N]ext
  107. ------
  108. If in BROWSE MODE will display the [N]ext PAGE of records available in the
  109. database.  A "[N]ext" indicator will appear if there are more records in
  110. the database than can fit on a single screen.  If you are in VIEW/EDIT MODE
  111. then you will simply go to the [N]ext Record in the database.

  113. [P]rev
  114. ------
  115. If in BROWSE MODE will display the [P]revious PAGE of records available in
  116. the database.  A "[P]rev" indicator will appear if there are more records
  117. in the database than can fit on a single screen.  If you are in VIEW/EDIT
  118. MODE then you will simply go to the [P]revious Record in the database.
  119.  
  120. [D]el
  121. -----
  122. If enabled will allow the caller to specify a range of records to
  123. mark for deletion or hit enter to delete the current record.  You may also
  124. press 0 to abort the delete process.  Records are marked for deletion
  125. and will be noted by a red astericks "*" beside the record number while in
  126. Browse Mode.  Deleted records can only be removed from the database using
  127. the MBMANAGE [C]lean the database function by the System Operator (Sysop).

  129. [U]ndel
  130. -------
  131. Similar in function to [D]elete above, but will unmark files for deletion.

  133. [X]fer
  134. ------
  135. Will allow you to download (transfer) data from the database or a [S]earch
  136. Table in either REPORT FORMAT as defined by the System Operator, or in .DBF
  137. format.  Your current protocol as selected on the BBS will be used or you
  138. may [S]elect your protocol from the main menu.
  139.  
  140. [A]dd
  141. -----
  142. Will allow you to [A]dd a record to the database.  This will utilize MODEM
  143. BASE ACCESS "smart" on-line processing as configured by the system operator
  144. for the database.  You will not be allowed to [A]dd records to [S]earch
  145. Tables.
  146.  
  147. [H]elp
  148. ------
  149. Displays this file.
  150.  
  151. [S]earch
  152. --------
  153. Will allow a [S]earch by field # or ALL fields for a TEXT match.  Two SEARCH
  154. options are available.  You can either [G]o to the found RECORD/FIELD # or
  155. may create a SEARCH [T]ABLE.   If [G]o is used, once a SEARCH is found
  156. Modem Base will REMAIN in <S>EARCH MODE.  The record and field # found will
  157. become the current field and record # and any other action can be taken on
  158. the record or you may press "S" to continue [S]earching the database or
  159. [Q]uit your Search.  If you use [T]able Search, then you will be able to
  160. create a seperate temporary database of the FOUND records.  You can then
  161. [R]everse of [F]orward between each SEARCH TABLE created, up to 10 levels.
  162. You can then use [X]fer to Transfer (download) a report of the records
  163. found in your search or a .DBF file.  Using the power of the TABLE SEARCH
  164. feature can allow callers to keep narrowing searches between TABLES in order
  165. to find just the right subset of information.
  166.  
  167. [J]ump
  168. ------
  169. Will [J]ump to the record number inputted.
  170.  
  171. [E]dit
  172. ------
  173. Will allow a FULL EDIT and ERASE of the current record.  A warning is
  174. displayed before allowing the record to be erased.
  175.  
  176. [L]ines
  177. -------
  178. Will allow you to change the number of lines displayed per screen.

  180. [I]nfo (RECORD VIEW/EDIT MODE ONLY)

  182. Will display field Information such as Field Type, Length, and Numeric
  183. Decimal Places.  Types are listed below:

  189. M - Memo
